Church of the Apostles Discovers Quality Storytelling with World Maps

After years of searching for suitable maps, a church media department finally finds the way to create and deliver their own

The Church of the Apostles in Atlanta, Georgia, has recently discovered how much time can be saved by using Curious World Maps.

The Church's media department, which creates educational video programming for its congregation, regards maps as an important teaching tool - perfect, in fact, for highlighting stories from the bible and placing them in a geographical context. However, finding suitable images of the world in Biblical times is not an easy task. After hours spent trawling the Internet, Michael Lines, the Church's Director of Media, was finding his patience severely tested. "We needed maps to illustrate a series our pastor was teaching on the Book of Acts, which details the Apostle Paul's missionary voyages," he explains. "We didn't own a copy of Curious World Maps at the time and I was left frustrated as many hours were wasted on the Internet looking for high resolution maps of Biblical times."

Lines was then introduced to Curious World Maps by Marshal Graphics of Nashville Tennessee, and immediately discovered how quickly and easily he could create broadcast quality still or animated maps of anywhere in the world - from the globe down to a single city street. Available for Windows and Mac, Curious World Maps includes detailed vector databases, satellite imagery and relief data for the whole world. Street data and highly detailed satellite images can be added and map styles are totally customisable to fit an in-house look. Users can also add shapes, image overlays and movies to illustrate their stories. 3D map models can also be exported for stunning flythroughs.

Within a few weeks the Church's media department owned its first copy of Curious World Maps and soon after was creating beautifully animated maps tracing Paul's journey from Jerusalem to Rome.

"No longer are we wasting valuable creative hours looking for or retouching maps," Lines adds. "Now we are concentrating on more creative issues such as 'how fast should the globe spin?' or 'do we want country borders…how much scale should the ocean contour have?'. Curious Software has not created just another map program - they've revolutionised the map making process and given end-users the control."
