Curious World Maps - Frequently Asked Questions

I use clip art for maps. Is Curious World Maps another clip art service?
No, it's a complete software solution that lets you make your own maps of anywhere in the world with any kind of detail or style you want. This means that unlike clip art, you get exactly what you need rather than a generic image designed for all-purpose use. The geographical data for all your map-making needs is included, together with the software application that lets you design and create the look you want. Curious World Maps runs on standard PC or Mac hardware. It's also very quick - you can create richly detailed and realistic maps of anywhere in the world in a minute or two, and they are immediately ready to output in your choice of format.

When we want a map, we scan a print map and then clean it up. How much time could we save with Curious World Maps?
It's impossible to give a hard-and-fast figure, but scanning a map, color correcting, cleaning up unwanted detail, adding features you want to show and so on, can take hours, and you are of course limited to the style of the map you scanned in to begin with. By contrast, with Curious World Maps you can create animated maps of anywhere in the world showing any kind of detail, in your preferred style, and with 3D, natural-world coloring, in a matter of minutes. If you only need the occasional map, the time savings might not be that significant to you, but if you have a regular need for maps, Curious World Maps will not only save you huge amounts of time, but will encourage you to make more eye-catching and adventurous use of maps in your work.

Our maps are created by design staff. How does Curious World Maps allow non-designers to make good-looking maps?
Curious World Maps has a template or style-sheet facility that allows your design staff to create a look (or a collection of looks) for your maps, then make them available in a pop-up menu to anyone subsequently using Curious World Maps. This means your designers need only design the look once, then hand over the tasks of making individual maps to the staff that need them. They can choose a map location and detail, and instantly apply the style your design department created. The result is a map that perfectly reflects the established style - without requiring the designer's help. So your journalists and editors, or executives can get on with producing beautiful maps as and when they need them, without waiting for the graphics department to help.

How easy is it to integrate Curious World Maps into our installation?
Curious World Maps works on standard PC or Mac hardware, so it fits easily into existing networks. It's also ready to work with any of the major image file formats, so you can import imagery and export it just as easily. As for output, Curious World Maps has built-in broadcast input/output facilities, so you can lay off to tape or disk server from within the program. Alternately, if your medium is the internet or a stage presentation, Curious World Maps lets you choose the appropriate format for those too.

Who uses Curious World Maps?
Curious World Maps is the leading solution for digital map-making, and as such, it's in daily use by the most prestigious information providers worldwide. Broadcasters and webcasters like CNN, NBC, ABC News, the BBC, the UK Meteorological Office, National Geographic, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Fox News, The Weather Channel and many more. Corporate users like the Automobile Association, The Church of the Apostles, and numerous government agencies are also among the users of satisfied users of Curious World Maps. If you want a reference from a user near you, or one who operates in your field, contact us and we'll put you in touch.

We already have a map-making capability. What's the potential advantage of World Maps for us?
Curious World Maps has established itself as the leading map-making solution for three main reasons. It's quicker than any other method; it gives you total control over the visual style and content; and it liberates map-making from being a task only undertaken by the graphics department.

Put together, these factors mean that any organisation involved in map-making, or sourcing maps for digital media can benefit from Curious World Maps. Your current solution for your map-making requirements probably involves a procedure such as using vector outlines and filling in detail by hand, using a printed map as an approximate guide; or you might use clip art and add detail manually; or scan a printed map; or outsource the whole process to a specialist graphics house. Whichever way YOU do it, it's likely you don't always get exactly what you'd like, and it's guaranteed to take longer than a Curious World Maps user takes to create exactly the map that's needed.

Apart from huge time-savings, the total control over visual style that Curious World Maps provides means that you can give your maps in a unique, individual look that reflects your corporate identity, and focuses attention on your message. One example of the way you can enrich your map imagery with Curious World Maps is by adding animation, flying your audience in to the scene of the action. And if you want to make map-making facilities available to non-design staff, Curious World Maps's design template feature means anyone can create fine-looking maps almost instantly, without relying on a busy graphics department.
