Belgium TV Embraces Curious as Modern Standard
Belgium - June 2003

Belgium's commercial television industry has revolutionized the
process of creating maps for transmission by embracing Curious
World Maps, from Curious Software, as the new industry standard
for all news and weather broadcasts.
Sales of Curious World Maps to private commercial stations
have replaced outdated methods of map production that rely on
a combination of manual processes and, often, several software
packages. The complexity of these old processes fails to deliver
the required broadcast quality that is now synonymous with the
Curious World Maps software.
Vincent Jeumont, Head of Systems and Projects for one such
station first came across Curious World Maps at IBC 2002. His
Brussels-based station, RTL-TV1, purchased the software earlier
this year and has already found it has made a vast improvement
to the map creation process in terms of both quality and ease
of use. Jeumont says; "The combination of Curious World
Maps' rich graphics functionality and "geo-coded"
vector database means we no longer have to constantly switch
between our old mapping package, Atlas, and our graphics packages.
Curious World Maps also allows us to define and change the styles
of maps instantly without having to redraw them. We are very
happy with the Curious mapping software, especially the animation
tools and the 3D Export option."
VTM (Vlaamse Televisie Maatschappij), also based in Brussels,
is another private commercial station to recently take full
advantage of the extended features offered by Curious World
Maps.
Like Jeument, Kristof D'haene, producer of VTM News and Current
Affairs, was first introduced to Curious World Maps at the IBC
exhibition. Following this, Curious' Product Specialist visited
VTM to give them an in-depth demonstration of the power of Curious
World Maps.
D'haene says; "One big advantage of Curious World Maps
is having a combined graphics tool and vector database in one
package. There is no need to go through the complex process
of creating and importing maps into a graphics package for manipulation.
It also offers the ability to develop individual style sheets
and adapt maps to suite the design of the station. Finally,
it has the advantage of an extensive toolbox, which gives the
maps a new dimension. We are expecting a great deal of this
new software."
Curious World Maps was launched in 2000 as the solution for
creating broadcast quality still and animated maps for television,
corporate presentations and the Internet. Since its launch it
has become the industry standard for broadcasters throughout
the world.
