Curious World Maps Puts Missionaries On The Map
The International Mission Board Adopt Curious World Maps Mac

London - August 14th 2001

Curious Software is delighted to announce the release of Curious World Maps Mac.

Curious World Maps is the unique and powerful software package that gives you total creative control to produce stunning maps and eye-catching graphics for broadcast, Web and print. With the PC version fast becoming the industry standard for broadcast maps, Curious World Maps Mac was first previewed at NAB in April this year.

Curious World Maps Mac contains all the exciting features and functionality of the PC version, including:
  • Integrated databases from the whole world down to local city streets

  • Integrated major road and rail networks for the whole world

  • Ability to apply satellite imagery directly to maps

  • Individual texture mapping region-by-region

  • Fully flexible and animatable shape layers

  • Highlighting and tracing of individual roads

  • Integrated world-wide relief and bathymetry data

  • Real-world coloring

  • Creation of fully textured 3D models for export.

Now the world really is in your hands. The possibilities are endless … you can create a seamless zoom from the whole world down to a single city street and onto an individual building in minutes.

Early adopters of this exciting software package on the Mac platform include the US-based International Mission Board who use Curious World Maps to add map graphics to a range of educational videos.

The International Mission Board supplies videos to Southern Baptist churches, and is responsible for recruiting missionaries and sending them overseas. Each title focuses on the work of Southern Baptists serving overseas and highlights key facts about the particular country. Maps are needed to illustrate the programmes and give State-side audiences a sense of where Southern Baptists are involved overseas.

Mark Ritter, Operations Manager for the IMB's electronic media department, says: "Our producers film the work of Southern Baptists overseas and then bring their material back to our headquarters in Richmond, Virginia, for editing. We have a 12-strong video department equipped with Avid and we release a number of titles every year, including quarterly videos aimed at child, youth and adult audiences."

Ritter and his team were among the first to see Curious World Maps Mac on-stand at NAB.

"It was exactly what we were looking for," he says. "In the past we have used Clipart and Photoshop to add much needed map graphics to our videos, but this was always a slow and tedious process. Now, with Curious World Maps, we can create very impressive maps and do it much faster. It is an incredibly user friendly software package - even operators who don't know much about Photoshop can quickly get to grips with it. I have also been impressed with the after sales support we've received from Curious. All of our questions have been answered quickly … we haven't looked back."
